6G Fieldlab Den Haag - TNO
The 6G Fieldlab in The Hague is led by TNO and focuses on the overall architecture and blueprints, as well as on bringing together all innovations and development partners. In this fieldlab, participants not only focus on the technical aspects but are also involved in developing business cases and sharing knowledge.
Specialization of this 6G Fieldlab
The specialization of this fieldlab lies at the intersection of all network components. The focus is on very practical use cases, such as teleoperated driving, remote healthcare, and industrial automation. Naturally, these developments are tested, but attention is also given to the integration of network components and functionalities.
What is the role of TNO?
For this Fieldlab, TNO provides the experimental Beyond 5G test environment, a modular and open platform that enables experimentation, validation, and demonstration for the creation of advanced network applications. The test environment brings together national and European partners:
- SMEs, such as Roboauto and V-TRON in the automotive sector;
- Telecom operators, such as KPN in the European ENVELOPE project;
- Knowledge institutions, such as TU Delft within FNS and the earlier DoloT program;
- European projects, such as H2020 5G-HEART, COMMECT, SNS ENVELOPE, and Hexa-X-II;
- National projects, such as 5Groningen and DoloT.
The fieldlab consists of:
- A test environment based on various software implementations (including Open5GS, Amarisoft, OpenAirInterface, Free5GC, and Open5GCore) running on TNO’s own research cloud;
- Multiple radio networks based on diverse hardware and partially software-based radios;
- Various end devices, from barebone 5G modems and different types of 5G smartphones to specialized user equipment such as drones and XR headsets;
The network has also been deployed in other 6G Fieldlabs.
