6G Fieldlab Eindhoven – BDF

BDF

The 6G Fieldlab in Eindhoven is located on the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) and is led by KPN, in collaboration with Brainport Digital Factory, Cordis-Suite, and TNO. The fieldlab focuses on transforming the manufacturing industry toward wireless, intelligent, and scalable production systems. Using the latest mobile network technologies, production processes are tested and optimized with 5G, while laying the foundation for applications with 6G and artificial intelligence.

Specialization of this 6G Fieldlab

The 6G Fieldlab in Eindhoven investigates how industrial components, sensors, and PLCs can be wirelessly connected via 6G networks. Digital production processes are enhanced with digital twin technology and edge computing, enabling better collection, analysis, and application of machine data. With end-to-end low-latency communication, machines and PLCs can be operated remotely. Large language models (LLMs) are used to support industrial processes with context-aware feedback.

What is the role of KPN?

As a telecom operator, KPN is responsible for the network facilities within the Eindhoven fieldlab. The company provides mobile networks, including private 5G and 5G LAN communication, and supports experiments with edge computing and digital twin technology. Within the fieldlab, KPN collaborates with industry partners and knowledge institutions to develop and test new applications in a production environment. Additionally, KPN provides expertise in network management, security, and scaling, ensuring that innovations are reliable and practically deployable.

The fieldlab consists of:

  • Mobile networks, including 5G LAN communication and an edge computing platform;
  • Indoor and outdoor testing facilities at the Brainport Industries Campus;
  • Collaboration with industry partners, knowledge institutions, and government;
  • Access to Phase 2 vouchers and subsidies;
  • Connection to the National 6G Testbed.
