FNS builds 6G collaboration in Japan
A delegation from the Future Network Services (FNS) program was present at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. Focused on high tech and digitization, the Netherlands is showcasing advancements in Semicon, Photonics, Quantum, Beyond 5G/6G, and AI.
Leading the Beyond 5G & 6G-mission delegation was Paul Wijngaard from the FNS Core Team, joined by Bart Smolders and Lenneke de Voogd. The mission’s goal was clear: to foster international collaboration in innovation. The useful discussions with Japan’s 6G program (XG Mobile Promotion Forum), the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) centered on advancements such as THz radio communication and the exchange of insights regarding Beyond 5G/6G applications.
A significant milestone was reached with the signing and presentation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TNO, representing the FNS program, and Japan’s XG Mobile Promotion Forum. King Willem-Alexander was present for the occasion. This partnership is set to drive wireless communication solutions beyond 5G and 6G.
Guided by the Japanese Society 5.0 vision, Japan aims to strengthen its role as a strategic European ally in the field of 6G innovation. The collaboration emphasizes knowledge sharing and joint R&D, harnessing the strengths of Dutch expertise in antenna technology and AI with Japanese advancements in hardware development.
This mission was an important step in the Japanese-Dutch collaboration to build a robust ecosystem for future wireless communications.
