Where is SURF active within the FNS program (program lines, work packages), and what is its contribution?

SURF is active in Program Lines 2 and 4. In Program Line 2, we work on the future architectures of 6G and cloud and edge computing. We explore how to make the network smarter and conduct feasibility studies related to use cases in Program Lines 3 and 4. In Program Line 4, we are creating a testbed environment within the SURF network. This involves collaborating with Fieldlabs such as DoIoT, Unmanned Valley, Brainport, and ICCS (Hanze University). We have also established a connection with RDI to co-create an innovation workspace.

Additionally, SURF aims to stimulate data exchange and use cases in Program Line 4 with services already used in research, such as research drive and publinova.

Why is SURF participating in the FNS program?

A key reason SURF participates is to ensure that, in the future, it will have the best and most innovative network to support research, education, and public-private partnerships across Europe. The internet in the Netherlands originated from the SURF network, and we want to continue playing a leading role in computing and network infrastructure, ensuring that the Dutch economy continues to benefit from this in the future.
